Why Organic? Good question. The answer is bigger than, "Simple, it's good for the environment." That's a given. It's expensive to produce an organic, earth-friendly product because the organic production process requires a lot of time and cost on the part of farmers and manufacturers — costs that are eventually passed on to eco-conscious consumers. To add, there just aren't enough companies producing organics to make it cost effective for a company or perhaps affordable for you, the user. So, the important answer to the question, "Why Organic?", is because if more companies do not integrate organics into their product lines, being "earth-conscious" will always be an expensive choice. The more of us that choose to produce, buy and use earth-conscious products, the closer we will ALL be to creating an affordable manufacturing and supply chain process that's cost-effective for businesses and users and earth-friendly for all. The ultimate decision comes down to the quality of BellaBand the yarn produces when knitted. There are several eco-friendly yarns made from renewable crops, such as organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, corn and soy, and they can even be used in seamless machinery which is what's used to make our BellaBand. With so many great yarns to choose from, we focused on two main factors to help us decide on the best yarn for us - function and environmental impact. Moms-to-be depend on our BellaBand Collections to hold up their pants, skirts and shorts throughout their entire pregnancy and beyond. BellaBand Organic had to live up to this standard. This made our yarn tests easy. Organic cotton was a natural winner with its ability to "grip" against other clothing, which helps to prevent our BellaBand Organic from sliding up around the waist. On top of its great functionality, organic cotton is a natural, breathable product that produces a super-soft band to make BellaBand Organic breathable as well. Selecting a truly eco-friendly yarn was important to us. We learned that organic cotton provides many environmental benefits. It's cultivated without the use of pesticides or genetically modified seeds. This means fewer chemicals are released into neighboring communities, the soil, and our water table. Organic cotton farmers build stronger soil through crop rotation, which in turn improves water retention in the soil so that less water is used in growing the crop. And, cotton doesn't require harsh chemicals to break down the plant fibers used to make yarn. So, organic cotton is natural, soil-friendly, uses less water and is not harmful to the employees who produce it. It was our perfect choice. |
